From humble beginnings....

On one of those rare days when I bumble around my local town, catching up with friends over a coffee and casting an eye over the charity shops which have escaped my attention for a few months, I found some treasures to get the creative ideas flowing.

I love old suitcases and images they evoke, momentous journeys to well trodden paths, I can never walk past them always hoping for a hint of their owners hiding inside - this battered gem didn't disappoint! With a beautifully written paper giving clues to its previous life as well as napkins and a delightful handkerchief - happy me!

But the beauty which got me crafting was the well worn woollen blanket, clearly much loved and thread bare in places. It was time for it to be loved again. I have so many plans it needed a cup of tea to decide what should come first.

After it's little spa treatment and a good drying & airing in the autumn sunshine, I got busy.

With a few scraps of fabric, hook and yarn my new crochet hook case was created. The pleasure in taking such an every item and repurposing it, when to the untrained eye it's 'past it's peak', is so satisfying.

What would you have made?

New Workshop Schedule

Well Hello, how are you all??  I trust you are all well and enjoying the tiny glimmer of sunshine that is about today.  I confess to being thoroughly bored with rain, I am so ready for warm sunshine, bright fabrics, new skirts and exposing my toes - which is probably a threat too far hence the consistent rain!!!

We have some really exciting new products in the shop; Matty Mouse Makes turns reclaimed wood into stunning drop spindles, niddy noddy's yarn bowls and cascades of unique buttons.  Along with new yarns from The Nude Ewe, Reggia and Rico, lots of new oil cloths from Betty Boyns perfect for Jubilee Tea Parties, the list just goes on and on!

But back to the point of this post and the new workshop schedule - wow it's packed next month!  Spinning & Lace Knitting with Miss Elle, then there's Colour Work & Cables with Lou, Alexa has a list of sewing machine workshops to make your machine over heat - Adult skirts, Pyjama trousers & bags, don't forget the needle felting with Laura which will get started with sheep and we are also thrilled to have Joanna joining us with upholstery workshops - her lampshades are much sought after and now you can create your own.

You can book onto any of our workshops by coming into the shop or by giving us a call!

Finally, next Tuesday 22nd May is when the Olympic Torch passes through Bradford on Avon, it should arrive between 2.25pm-3pm.  This historical event will be followed by lots of entertainment and merriment in town right through to the evening - Do pop into town and help us celebrate this once in a lifetime event!

Looking forward to seeing you soon, Debs x

Happy New Year & Workshop Dates

Happy New Year to you all!

We had a lovely Christmas and we are all ready for a creative and crafty 2012.  So to get things going here are the first wave of workshop dates for you.

There is a new Learn to Knit Level that has been added which will cover Cable Knitting with Lou along with the popular beginners workshops.  Lou is also adding fun knitting workshops such as Knitted Bunting, Sooo 2012 every home needs some! You will also find a 3 part Sock Knitting workshop with Miss Elle, in response to all the admiration of the socks that Elle is ALWAYS knitting when you pop in to Jumble Jelly as well as workshops on Lace Knitting & Lace Blocking - this is essential to show off your beautiful knitted lace shawls.

Alexa is back with new things to tackle on the sewing machine, the crazy patchwork cushion will put all your new found skills of 2011 into practice and introduce new skills to boot.  Look out for her Wool Felt Slippers (you can drool over a pair that are in the shop already) and a two part hand quilting workshop to create your own quilt for generations to come.  In response to your requests there will also be dressmaking workshops - starting with a simple pattern for a girls dress - your own handmade wardrobe is closer than you think!

We are thrilled to be able to tell you that Jenny Barnett will be running needle felting workshops in Jumble Jelly - many of you know Jenny or certainly admire her work.  Jenny is popping in with dates next week so I promise to get those to you as quickly as I can.

So there we go - what are you waiting for?!  Get booking and have your most creative year yet!

Hugs Debs & Rox

Spooky Times

Halloween is almost upon us and there are plenty of spooky crafty ideas at Jumble Jelly.  Amazing fabric covered in bats, pumpkins or skulls & crossbones to name just a few.  Jean Greenhowes Jiffy Knits means you can whip up a few knitted pumpkins, a witch and a ghost in next to no time and lots of felt squares to use on fancy dress costumes.

But fear not, if making is not your thing why not buy it ready made by us??  There are trick or treat bags in fantastic fabric, bunting kits which are so quick and easy to make or just great as a gift.

There will be some kids crafty fun on the Wednesday 26th October (half term) 2pm - 3.30pm, where they can decorate their own trick or treat bag OR decorate a halloween cape, this workshop is £12.50 per child.

So get haunting!!!!
